Having recently retired as head teacher of a primary school, on the west coast of Scotland, Dick Edie sets out to explore Iceland by bicycle. In his journey, he traveled round the main part of the island, the Eastern and the Western Fjords as well as the Snaefel Peninsula. He encountered extremes of weather and a vast range of different scenery as well as some of the most challenging cycling he had ever encountered.

I kept meaning to stop reading and go to sleep but ended up finishing the book instead. The mixture of stories about the tour and about the author made it even more interesting. I would have loved to have read this before I went myself but now it was wonderful to hear about lots of places I have seen and to remember again what a great time I had and what an awesome country it is.Product details

Cycling Iceland eBook Dick Edie Reviews
I was expecting a more useful guide to Iceland. Dick Edie's cycle tour was certainly eventful for him and well recounted in the book. However, a book entitled "Cycling Iceland" leads me to expect a well-researched overview of the country and its challenges to touring cyclists, maps with route details, useful pointers, information on campsites, restaurants, hostels, bike shops, public transit, etc. Indexed and well organized. Dick's narrative (personal and compelling as it is) is the kind of account we touring cyclists have as conversations when we meet and share with other cyclists. I had hoped for a more of guidebook and less of a personal blog.
